What is the difference between a globe valve and a gate valve? Valves are control components in fluid conveying systems that have functions such as cutoff, regulation, diversion, prevention of reverse flow, pressure stabilization, diversion, or overflow pressure relief. The valves used in fluid control systems range from the simplest globe valves to various valves used in extremely complex automatic control systems, with a wide variety of varieties and specifications.
Stop valve, gate valve, butterfly valve, check valve and ball valve are all indispensable control components in various Plumbing. Each type of valve has differences in appearance, structure, and even functional use. But there are some similarities in the appearance of globe valves and gate valves, and both have the function of cutting off in pipelines. Therefore, many friends who have little contact with valves may confuse the two. In fact, if you carefully observe, the difference between globe valves and gate valves is quite significant.
1. Structurally
When the installation space is limited, it is important to pay attention to the selection. The gate valve can rely on the medium pressure to tightly close the sealing surface, thus achieving the effect of no leakage. When opening and closing, the sealing surface of the valve core and valve seat always contacts and rubs against each other, making the sealing surface easy to wear. When the gate valve is close to closing, the pressure difference between the front and rear of the pipeline is large, making the sealing surface wear more severe.
2. Working principle
When the shut-off valve is opened and closed, it is an upward stem type, which means that when the handwheel is turned, it will rotate and lift along with the valve stem. And the gate valve rotates the handwheel to make the valve stem move up and down, while the position of the handwheel itself remains unchanged. The flow rate varies, and gate valves require full opening or full closing, while globe valves do not. The shut-off valve has specified inlet and outlet directions; There is no requirement for the inlet and outlet direction of the gate valve.
In addition, the gate valve only has two states: fully open or fully closed, and the opening and closing stroke of the gate plate is large, resulting in a long opening and closing time. The travel of the valve plate of the shut-off valve is much smaller, and the valve plate of the shut-off valve can stop at a certain position during movement for flow regulation. The gate valve can only be used for cutting off and has no other functions.
The structure of a gate valve is more complex than that of a globe valve. From the appearance, under the same caliber, the gate valve is taller than the globe valve, and the globe valve is longer than the gate valve. In addition, there are two types of gate valves: open stem and non rising stem. The shut-off valve is not available.
3. Performance Differences
The shut-off valve can be used for both cut-off and flow regulation purposes. The fluid resistance of the shut-off valve is relatively high, making it difficult to open and close. However, due to the short distance between the valve plate and the sealing surface, the opening and closing stroke is short.
The gate valve can only be fully opened and fully closed. When fully opened, the medium flow resistance in the valve body channel is almost zero, so the opening and closing of the gate valve will be very labor-saving. However, the distance between the gate plate and the sealing surface is far, and the opening and closing time is long.
4. Installation and Flow Direction
The flow direction of the gate valve has the same effect in both directions, and there is no requirement for inlet and outlet direction during installation. The medium can flow in both directions. Globe valves need to be installed strictly in accordance with the direction indicated by the arrow on the valve body. There is also a clear regulation regarding the inlet and outlet directions of globe valves. According to the "Three Chemicals" regulations for valves in China, the flow direction of globe valves is always from top to bottom.
The shut-off valve is low in and high out, starting from

China's valve industry has become a necessity in the production process of many industries
In recent years, China's valve industry has entered a period of rapid development, and the threshold for the valve industry has risen. Currently, it has become the largest valve processing center in Asia and one of the world's largest valve markets. However, the per capita consumption level of valve products in China is not high in the world, currently only $22 per capita. But with the rise of power station valves, chemical valves, valve building materials, and food valves, we can see that the valve industry has broad prospects and attractive markets.

Development direction of energy-saving control valves with low energy consumption
Energy conservation, reducing energy consumption, and improving energy utilization efficiency are a development direction for regulating valves. There are several main development directions. 1. Use a regulating valve with a low pressure drop ratio. Reducing the proportion of the regulating valve in the entire system pressure drop, thereby reducing energy consumption, therefore, designing a regulating valve with a low pressure drop ratio is one of the development directions, and another development direction is to use a low impedance regulating valve. For example, butterfly valves, eccentric rotary valves, etc. are used. 2. Using a self operated regulating valve: For example, directly using the pressure of the medium behind the valve to form a self operated control system, using the energy of the controlled medium to achieve pressure control behind the valve. 3. A regulating valve using an electric actuator. The pneumatic actuator requires a certain amount of air pressure throughout the entire operation process of the regulating valve. Although amplifiers with low consumption can be used, over time, the air consumption is still enormous. By using an electric actuator, when changing the opening of the regulating valve, power supply is required. When the required opening is reached, the power supply can no longer be supplied. Therefore, from the perspective of energy conservation, electric actuators have obvious energy-saving advantages compared to pneumatic actuators. 4. Adopting a piezoelectric regulating valve. Piezoelectric valves are used in intelligent electrical valve positioners, which only consume air when the output signal increases. 5. Adopting a valve core with a balanced structure to reduce the thrust or torque of the actuator, shrink the diaphragm head chamber, and reduce energy requirements. 6. Using variable frequency speed regulation technology instead of regulating valves. For applications with high voltage drop ratio, if energy consumption is high, variable frequency speed regulation technology can be used, which uses frequency converters to change the speed of relevant operating equipment and reduce energy consumption. Protecting the environment from environmental pollution has become a public hazard, and the pollution caused by regulating valves to the environment mainly includes valve noise and valve leakage. Among them, the environmental pollution caused by the noise of regulating valve is very serious. 1. Reduce the noise of the regulating valve. Develop various methods to reduce the noise of regulating valves, including the design of regulating valve flow paths, the design of regulating valve internals, the analysis of noise sources, and measures to reduce noise. Mainly designing noise reduction regulating valves and valve trim for noise reduction regulating valves; Reasonably allocate pressure drop and use external noise reduction measures, such as increasing isolation and using silencers. 2. Reduce atmospheric pollution of regulating valves. The atmospheric pollution of regulating valves refers to the "running", "emitting", "dripping", and "leakage" of regulating valves. These leaks not only cause waste of materials or products, but also cause pollution to the atmospheric environment. Sometimes, they can also cause accidents such as casualties or equipment explosions. Therefore, developing the packing structure and type of the regulating valve, as well as the sealing of the regulating valve, will be an important research topic for the regulating valve in the future. The development of high-tech technologies such as computer science, control theory, and automation instruments has driven the development of regulating valves, such as the development of fieldbus regulating valves and intelligent valve positioners, and the implementation of digital communication in regulating valves. The development of control valve has also promoted the development of other science and technology, such as the research on anti-corrosion materials, the research on methods of reducing and reducing noise, and the research on fluid dynamics. With the development of fieldbus technology, regulating valves will also be open, intelligent, and more reliable. Together with other industrial automation instruments and computer control devices, they will enhance the functionality of industrial production process control

Issues that need to be paid attention to when using manual valves
Manual valves are widely used valves, and their handwheels or handles are designed according to ordinary manual labor, taking into account the strength of the sealing surface and the necessary closing force. Therefore, it is not possible to use a long lever or a long wrench to move the board. Some people are accustomed to using a wrench and should be strictly careful not to use too much force, otherwise it may damage the sealing surface or break the handwheel or handle.
